WHAT IS FORGERY IN LOUISIANA?

A person commits forgery when he/she:

  1. Forges any signature or any part of any writing purporting to have legal efficacy with the intent to defraud; or,
  2. Issues, transfers, or possesses a forged writing with intent to defraud.

 PENALTIES FOR FORGERY CONVICTION

A person who commits the crime of forgery may be fined not more than $5,000.00, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than ten years, or both.
