WHAT IS AGGRAVATED ASSAULT IN LOUISIANA?

Aggravated assault is defined as an assault committed with a dangerous weapon by a person.

PENALTIES FOR AN AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CONVICTION

A person who commits the crime of aggravated assault may be sentenced to a fine of up to $1,000.00; imprisonment for not more than six months; or, both.

If the offense is committed upon a store's or merchant's employee while the person engaged in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of theft of goods, the person may be imprisoned for not less than 120 days nor more than six months and may be fined up to $1,000.00.
